Being an artist is not a choice you make; you either are an artist, or you are not. An artist has to make art!

Making art is about creatively expressing your ideas/concepts in your own way. In this context, your art ("pure art" - "art for arts sake") is successful if you think it is! Other people's ideas of good art are not relevant to you.

Being a professional artist is a somewhat divergent path inasmuch as "success" is expressed in other terms, usually financial.

"Money for nothin'", means you love being an artist, You love creating your art; and, thus, making money from doing what makes you happiest is truly "Money for nothin'".
